Life After Beth (2014)

If you can’t tell already, my new goal is to watch ever A24 horror movie. This one caught my attention on Netflix as I love actress Aubrey Plaza from watching her on the television series Parks and Recreation . This horror-comedy takes place when a young man’s ex-girlfriend and love of his life suddenly passes away. After attending the funeral, he goes to Beth’s parents house to grieve where he sees Beth in the house! Is he going nuts, or did his ex-girlfriend just return from dead?  Though I love all the actors and cameo appearances including John C. Reiley and Molly Shannon, this movie can be a bit clumsy and slow. I think it had more potential to go full dark-comedy horror like Shaun of the Dead , or go the warm love-zombie romance route like Warm Bodies . I also wish this movie would have expanded on the unexpected zombie apocolapyse that begins towards the latter end of the film . Train to Busan (2016)

Train to Busan is a Korean zombie horror film about a zombie outbreak on a train. No, this is not Snakes on a Plane , it's zombies on a train! (Someone really ought to make a picture book about this). The main character, Seok-woo, is a self-absorbed business man who does not spend enough time with his young daughter. Feeling resentful and angry at her father, Soo-an requests that she visit her mother for her birthday. To please her, Seok-woo agrees to accompany his daughter on the train ride. As their train takes off, a rickety, bloody woman stumbles onto the train, and all hell breaks loose! Like many zombie movies, there is a cast of great side characters that Seok-woo and Soo-an meet. My favorite character was the burly husband,  Sang-hwa,  trying to keep his pregnant wife safe and alive. He is the smartest and most kick-ass from the bunch.
